ARTIST STATEMENT As a painter, I am to some extent self taught. However, early in my career I worked with and learned from several professional artists, among them Miles Peter Richmond, founder member of the Borough Group of Artists and pupil of the great David Bomberg; and Nick Samsworth, currently Head of Art at Hereford College. Painting is central to my activity, but my art as a whole can perhaps best be understood as a multi-media or – better yet – a conceptual practice, informed by the philosophy in which I am also immersed: writer Malcolm Quinn has called what I do “thinking in paint”.
