Artworks - Ian Woodard
Ian directly sculpts from the world around him, exploring relationships, portraying isolation, social and sexual tension, individual strength and integrity. All of his work is concerned with total responsibility for ones actions and consequences there of.
Over the last five years Ian Woodard has developed a supreme conviction in his style of work, working from his studio in Petworth, West Sussex.
Currently using a wide range of mediums the central themes to Ian’s work are still maintained, with distinct influences from the post war sculpture movement and likewise, Rodin.
Ian graduated from Brighton University 2003, where he studied music and visual art.
In 2002, Ian lived in New York State studying welding, metal fabrication, sonic art and digital media. He went on to graduate with a BA (Hons) and won the Burt Brilland Cardens prize for outstanding artistic achievement.
Throughout 2006 Ian was Artist in Residence at Treloar’s College, a Beacon status specialist college for disabled students, based in the outskirts of Alton, Hampshire. The gardens of Treloar’s College provide a stunning backdrop for one of Ian’s large-scale carved wooden sculptures.
Ian made his debut at the 2008 London Art Fair and has also exhibited at AAF London, AAF New York, Lightbox Gallery Woking, Chelsea Art Society where he won this year's Sculpture Award (non-member) and Sotheby’s Summers Place Auction.
