Artworks - Gemma Wightman
Gemma Wightman trained at The Surrey Institute of Art and Design and at Bath University College of Art where she obtained her ceramics degree. She is greatly influenced by the world famous Takeshi Yasuda, who fuelled her desire to become a ceramicist
Gemma spent some time in Africa, working for a charity in Namibia. She now lives in South London with her husband and works from her studio in Wimbledon.
Gemma’s making philosophy is to create ceramic pieces that can be cherished on both visual and functional levels whilst being used in the rituals of the home.
Gemma is highly influenced by the actual throwing process itself; it is integral to every form and is evident in every finished piece.
The soft thrown lines and sensitively dented surfaces retain the fluid nature of the porcelain clay and add to the tactile sensation of every piece; while the silky shimmer of the glazes echo the sensual surface of the wet porcelain.
