Artworks - Alex Rennie

Alex RennieAlex Rennie BA was born in 1977 in London. His work has been exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery Scotland, 2006 and with BP Portrait Awards, National Portrait Gallery, London, 2005/2006. Alex's work is extremely diverse and always changing. Within each body of work he experiments with new techniques to further the progression of his paintings. He especially enjoys the manipulation of light, with warmth, fluidity and high realism and uses such manipulations to create a deep atmosphere and stark illusion on a two dimensional surface. The fierce red light that emanates from behind the glass doors in ‘Actaeon’ runs through most of his recent paintings which include urban landscapes around the Piccadilly and Soho areas of London. This technique is also employed to describe the red lights that frame the geometric hoardings around the capitals’ building sites, visually arresting signifiers of growth and transition. He is broadly influenced by the work of traditional artists such as Tiepolo, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Louis Corinth and more contemporary artists such as Jenny Saville, Lucien Freud and Peter Doig.
